About Me

My name is Diane Cominotti and I am a school planner with diverse experience in environmental planning, bioremediation and restoration, water quality testing, and GIS.

I have a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from St. John's University, New York and am currently completing a Bachelor Certificate in Geographic Information Science (GIS) through the University of West Florida.

In 1995 I started working with the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation's Natural Resources Group/Salt Marsh Restoration Team on a project to restore Spartina alterniflora (Salt marsh cordgrass) to the shorelines of an environmentally sensitive area damaged by the 1990 Exxon oil spill in the Arthur Kill waterway.

Recently, as part of my internship with Sarasota County's Planning and Development Services Department, I created a Story Map on the Englewood Community Redevelopment Area and its successfully completed projects (see link under GIS Portfolio). I have also created maps of Northeast County and South County developments by georeferencing development site plans over county aerials. These maps have been used by Planning and Development Services staff in various presentations.
